Cloud Street Restaurant Review - Messy Lasagna
Once you take a break from the vastness and serenity of the Kodaikanal Lake, you will hunt for some authentic Chettinad dish, but after a few rounds of Biriyani and a whiff of Tamil spices, you will crave for some pasta and pizza. After driving through the famous ‘Hill Top Inn’ on your left, a diversion again to the left takes you to the Poet Thyagaraja Road – a street with restaurants that serves North Indian, Tibetan, and European Cuisines.
Hidden in First floor above a local clothing store is ‘Cloud Street’, a restaurant that promotes itself as a specialist in Western Breakfast, Best Wood-Oven Pizzas & Pastas, Beef-Steak Sizzlers, Thai-Fried Chicken, and the usual Espresso Coffee, Cakes and Brownies.
What would you expect when you order special of the day for your lunch from a place known to serve European dishes? A classic, right! Our expectations were high when we ordered a Rs 600 Beef Lasagna from Cloud Street with Salads on the side. Reviews from popular travel sites influenced our choice. We expected to see minced Beef layered with lasagna sheets and a creamy cheese topping. What we got was a gooey mess. It was a baked beef lasagna with very little minced beef and vegetable. The Cheesy béchamel sauce was in excess. When we could not make a decent slice through the Lasagne, we requested the Waiter to do the honors for us. He made a slushy cut out of the wet Lasagna and looked unperturbed by the mess. We noticed his nonchalant attitude while entering the restaurant. The Garlic bread served with the Dish was Stale. The only saving grace was the fresh, crisp salads. As we took a few bites of the salad, the dressing leaked and formed a pool at the centre of the plate.
The Rs 600 Goey Lasagna bothers us even after two weeks. It was a terrible experience. Skip the Lasagna from Cloud Street. There are other good restaurants in the street.
